Windows 7- How to Add Quick Launch and Change Icon Size


Windows 7 default icon size is rather large as previously I was using classic icon in Vista Ultimate which is smaller in size. And I do miss Quick launch toolbar with Show desktop option.

So it’s time to do customization as I needed wider workspace for additional icon and files. After some editing, it does look prettier to my point of view. The after look image as below.

Customizing Steps :

Bringing up Quick launch tool bar

  • Move your mouse to an empty area of your Taskbar and right click.
  • Go to Toolbars and select New toolbar option.

  • Copy %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
  • Paste it to Folder: and click Select folder as image shown.
  • Now you will have Quick launch toolbar.

  • Right click on the empty area of your Taskbar and unselect Lock Toolbar.

  • Now drag Quick launch toolbar from the dotted line by holding mouse left click to wherever you want it to be.
  • By default Quick launch toolbar is with Text and Title.

  • Right click on Quick launch toolbar and unselect Show text.

Editing the Icon Size

  • Right click on Taskbar and select Properties.
  • Check on Use small icon.

  • As for Desktop Icon, Right click on Desktop.
  • Go to View and select Small Icon.
