What is Blue Screen Of Death and How to Find the Cause

If you are a frequent Windows user, chances are you have seen the Blue Screen Of Death or BSoD as shown on the image below. It may be frightening at first view but what BSoD really is?
It’s actually a screen that shows up when a system encountered critical error that can cause the system to shut down make it possible to prevent irreversible damage to your system’s integrity. It also serves to show information for diagnostic purposes as the operating system issued a bug check.
During the session, the system will dump all of its memory to a file. Data in memory would then be lost but in some circumstances it could be retrievable from the dump file.
There are many origins of BSoD and the 3 main causes are from conflicting drivers or hardware failure, incompatible Dll and from Kernel bugs.
If you want details of the actual causes, you can use a free tool called BlueScreenView. It’s a freeware that will scan all your minidump files created during Blue Screen Of Death crashes and it then displays the information in a simple table.
Information shown are detail of crash origin (name, description and version), drivers/modules that might be involved in the crash, dump file name and date time of the occurrence.
Personally I feel that knowing what causes the problem is always better than ignoring it.
