Fax from a PC with Windows 7 and Vista

For Windows 7 and Vista you can make use of Windows Fax and Scan features. With Windows Fax and Scan, we can send and receive faxes, fax or email a scanned documents and forward faxes as email attachments from computer.

Setup:

• Go to Start, select All Programs and select Windows Fax and Scan.
• Select New Fax and if this is your first run, Fax Setup Wizard will auto launch to guide you through step by step instructions.
• Once you’re done with the instruction, select Tools and click Fax Accounts and select Add to complete the process of establishing the fax connection.
• To send a fax, just select New Fax and enter a recipient fax number.
• The To field on fax interface is link to addresses stored in Outlook or Windows Address Book. You can also manually enter name and number if you do not have those information in your address book.
• When you’re done with entering your message in the text box just click Send.

Windows Fax and Scan is currently available in Business and Ultimate version of both Windows 7 and Vista. Home Basic and Premium will need 3rd party software.

Fax from a PC with Windows XP

With Windows XP you can basically send, receive, track, and monitor faxes with XP.

Setup:

1. To make this possible you must first configure the windows fax component:

• Go to Start, select Run.
• Type appwiz.cpl and click OK
• Select Add/Remove Windows Components on left side of the newly open window.
• On the Components list, select the Fax Services check box and click Next.
• The fax component should be installed now.

2. After the fax component is installed, next step is configuring it:

• Go to Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, select Communications, select Fax and click Fax Console.
• On Tools menu in Fax Console, click Configure Fax, Fax Configuration Wizard will now launch.
• On Sender Information you can include your personal detail.
• On Select Device for Sending or Receiving Faxes you can select your modem and specify send receive option.
• On Transmitting Subscriber Identification (TSID) and Called Subscriber Identification (CSID) you can enter name and fax number.

(TSID identification information appears in the header area of a fax that you receive and can help you recognize the fax machine where the fax originated. CSID text that you enter appears on fax machines that send faxes to you)

• Select Print it on check box if you want your receive fax to be auto print out. You may select a printer for the task.
• Confirm the configuration settings in the Configuration Summary list, and then click Finish.

3. Your computer is now configured to send or receive faxes, next step is send it:

• Go to Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, select Communications, select Fax and click Send A Fax.
• Send Fax Wizard will now launch and click Next.
• On Recipient Information dialog box will appear, type the recipient name in To, type the recipient fax number in Fax number and click Add and then Next.
• When you’re done with entering your message in the text box just Send it.
